Asteroids are small, rocky, airless bodies left over from the formation of the solar system, 4.6 billion years ago. Within our solar system there are over 1,113,527 known asteroids! Most asteroids can be found orbiting the sun between Mars and Jupiter, this area is known as the “asteroid belt”.
